Alyssa Migenes is a sophomore from Orlando, FL majoring in media communication studies. She is in MC 22.5 and has many involvements in gamma phi including serving as our external philanthropy chair and as a dancer on our FSL line dance team.
She is also involved outside of Gamma Phi with one of her biggest involvements being the FSU Flying High Circus. The circus was established at FSU in 1947 and is one of only two collegiate circuses in the entire country. This is Alyssa’s second year in the circus where she performs as a dancer, introducing and supporting other acts as she dances.
Although Alyssa has only been performing in the circus for two years, she has a lot of experience dancing. She was a dancer for thirteen years at her studio back home in Orlando and was proficient in many styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop. Alyssa’s love of dance convinced her to join the circus her freshman year so she could continue her passion after coming to college.
This spring, the FSU Circus had their spring shows which occurred almost every weekend throughout the month of April. These shows required a lot of work by circus members with practices being three or more times a week and dress rehearsals lasting up to five hours. So, many of our sisters went to circus shows this month to see Alyssa perform and support her. Alyssa said, “Seeing your friends and your sisters at the end of the day is really rewarding.” The FSU circus just completed their spring shows this past weekend.
We are so proud of you, Alyssa, and everything you do! Keep up the great work!
