Sister Spotlight: Natalie Rodrigez

Summer is a great time to travel the world and study abroad. Early this summer one of our sisters, Natalie Rodriguez, spent about three weeks in Costa Rica providing healthcare and administering vaccines. Natalie is a rising sophomore in MC 23. She is a pre-nursing major with a minor focus in criminology.

Natalie first decided to study abroad because of the stories her uncle had told her about his time studying abroad and how much he learned about life and himself. Natalie knew that she wanted to learn and get hands-on experience in her future field of nursing while being able to travel the world.

During her time in Costa Rica, she stayed in San Jose. Here she helped provide free healthcare to people, many of which had never had access to it before. “My favorite memory was when we were providing healthcare at a school and this little girl was so happy to get a toothbrush and vitamins that she hugged all of us. It really hit us how important the work we are doing is. This portion of my trip really showed me how we take many things directly granted,” said Natalie.

Natalie also had the opportunity to stay in La Fortuna near a volcano. She got to go zip lining, rock climbing, and hiking. She enjoyed exploring the beautiful views and waterfalls. Going abroad allowed her to learn more about her personal values and get a better understanding of the world. “I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by going to this country without knowing anyone! It really showed me to take the opportunities you can even if others around you don’t want to and to be grateful for what you have,” explained Natalie.

We are inspired by Natalie's adventures and proud to call her our Beta Mu sister!
